Federation Peak towers 670m above an ancient glacial lake, Lake Geeves. Standing on the shores of Lake Geeves, Federation Peak towers above you - twice the height of Uluru and five times the height of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. This iconic destination is currently inaccessible, although many intrepid climbers and walkers currently make Federation Peak their destination. A track similar to the Overland Track would open up this experience to many more people … it would provide a relatively easy three day, two night trek. All only 2 hours from the Hobart airport! The location is also surrounded by existing infrastructure – only 2.5 km of new track would need to be built, the rest would need to be refurbished. The Tahune Airwalk is only minutes from the start of the road leading to the track and Geeveston is 25 minutes’ drive away. A perfect location for a tourism precinct to be developed to ensure that sensitive development of accommodation and other tourism ventures in the area.
